PM GatiShakti Public Platform

PM GatiShakti Public: Enabling Wider Access to Geospatial Planning

PM GatiShakti Public, launched through the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI), extends selected geospatial and data-analytics capabilities to private entities, researchers, academia and the general public. It enables users to explore relevant infrastructure and socio-economic assets within a project's catchment area, assess connectivity and location suitability, and support preliminary project-planning decisions through a query-based mechanism.

The platform can assist users in identifying suitable locations based on selected criteria, understanding the infrastructure and socio-economic context of a proposed site, exploring alignment options for linear infrastructure such as roads and pipelines, and reviewing relevant approval or No Objection Certificate requirements. It promotes wider use of geospatial information for infrastructure planning, investment decisions and research, subject to the datasets and functionalities made available through the public interface.

Citizen-Centric Project Planning and Awareness

How PM GatiShakti supports citizens through better project planning

PM GatiShakti supports the planning of infrastructure in a coordinated and citizen-centric manner by enabling project proponents to assess existing networks, identify connectivity gaps and examine potential constraints before finalising project proposals. Geospatial analysis helps optimise alignments, identify utility and land-related conflicts, assess environmental constraints and improve coordination among implementing agencies. These interventions can help reduce avoidable delays, improve project preparedness and support timely completion of infrastructure projects, ultimately benefiting citizens through better connectivity, improved access to essential services and more efficient movement of people and goods.

The platform's analytical capabilities and integrated datasets can also support wider public-interest applications, subject to data availability and the relevant department's mandate:

  • Human–wildlife conflict: Overlaying wildlife habitats, forest areas, animal movement corridors and transport infrastructure may help identify potential conflict zones and inform mitigation measures such as suitable crossings and safer infrastructure alignments.
  • Slum rehabilitation and urban planning: Mapping settlements, land-use patterns, housing, transport links and social amenities can support the identification of infrastructure gaps and the planning of rehabilitation and service delivery.
  • Encroachment and land-use management: Geospatial overlays of authorised land records, rights-of-way and infrastructure assets may help concerned authorities identify potential encroachments and prioritise verification and remedial action.
  • Access to public services: Mapping schools, hospitals, roads and other essential facilities can help identify underserved areas and inform the location of new facilities and last-mile connectivity improvements.
  • Environmental and disaster-risk planning: Integration of relevant environmental, drainage, flood-risk and other hazard datasets can help agencies assess constraints and incorporate risk mitigation into project planning.

These are potential applications of integrated geospatial planning. Their implementation would require suitable datasets, validation by the concerned authorities and appropriate safeguards for sensitive information.

Citizen Awareness and Participation through MyGov

To promote public awareness and encourage citizen participation in PM GatiShakti, the Logistics Division, DPIIT, has undertaken citizen-engagement activities through the MyGov portal. These activities help communicate the importance of integrated infrastructure planning and provide opportunities for citizens to contribute their views.

  • Quiz: Quiz on PM GatiShakti – My Infrastructure, My Responsibility, to improve awareness of PM GatiShakti and integrated infrastructure planning.
  • Pledge: PM GatiShakti: My Infrastructure, My Responsibility, encouraging citizens to express their commitment to the initiative.
  • Discussion: Inviting Suggestions on the National Transport Master Plan – PM GatiShakti – Integrated Planning for Viksit Bharat, inviting views on first- and last-mile connectivity, transport amenities, travel experience and infrastructure priorities.
  • Survey: PM GatiShakti – Planning of Viksit Bharat, seeking citizen perspectives on infrastructure and multimodal transport planning.

These initiatives complement institutional coordination by enabling public awareness, feedback and participation in shaping citizen-centric transport and infrastructure priorities.
