


Policy
i). The focus of the collection development is to provide services to the staffs, research scholars and Archaeology patrons, engaged in the studies related to Archaeology, Art and Architecture, Cultural Heritage of India and its States. Hence, the collection development should focus on the collection of reference material for above discipline. Such collection development would ultimately lead to development of resource center on developmental literature.
ii). CAL should also be converted as a resource center on various reading materials on and about Indian cultural heritage by building its collection in that sphere.
iii). The reference collection of the CAL is built up so as to provide an opportunity to the reader to have current/updated information available through these collections.
iv). The biographical collection which has been a useful source in CAL should be strengthened.
v). In addition, CAL focus on collecting the Indian and foreign literature especially on various subject namely History, Archaeology, Anthropolgy, Architecture, Art, Epigraphy & Numismatics, Indology, Geology etc so that the Departmental employees and visiting Research Scholars can update their knowledge with time specific.
vi). CAL should continue to collect literature related to Indian culture and civilization, art and archaeology, music and dance and all other disciplines that are directly connected with the activity of the Department of Culture and Archaeology.
This is a tentative guideline, which is being followed for purchase of reading materials at CAL , A well established Collection Development Committee consisting of former Archaeologist, subject experts makes extensive selection of books in different subject fields and adheres to the guidelines.
